Rob's Logs

Questions before ordering?

Everything you need to know about logs, delivery, payment and storage.

Why do you have such a loyal customer base?

Our customer base has grown naturally over the years because we focus on quality firewood, fair pricing and reliable delivery. Every load is properly dried, measured by volume and delivered when we say it will be. Customers know exactly what they are getting: honest, clean-burning wood and dependable service.

How do I order online?

Choose your loose load size, add kindling if required, enter your delivery details and send your order. Rob will confirm the delivery arrangements within 24 hours. The expected delivery time is provided the evening before your agreed delivery day.

Can I order by telephone?

Yes. Contact Rob on 07718 652200. An initial message with your full delivery postcode helps him reply with an accurate price, always by the end of the day.

What if I am uncomfortable ordering online?

You are always welcome to phone or message instead. We are happy to confirm prices, explain load sizes or book delivery with you directly.

How do I pay?

Payment can be made by cash or bank transfer on delivery. We do not ask for upfront payments.

How much notice do you require?

During busy periods, one week's notice is preferred, although we will accommodate where possible.

What days do you deliver?

Delivery can be arranged any day of the week, although we typically operate on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

What vehicle do you use?

We deliver using an Iveco Daily 3.5-ton tipper, similar in size and capability to a Ford Transit Tipper. It offers good access down most driveways and lanes, and allows us to tip your load where you need it.

Where will my logs be tipped?

Logs are tipped loose from the vehicle, so please have a suitable space such as a driveway, yard or clear area close to where you plan to stack them. Someone must be home so we can confirm the tipping spot before unloading.

What happens if the weather is bad?

We can deliver in most conditions, as loads are sheeted for protection. We would always give you the option to rearrange if you'd prefer.

Can I choose hardwood, softwood or a mix?

Yes. Hardwood gives a longer, steadier burn, while softwood lights quickly and is good value. A mixed load offers both, with quick ignition and lasting heat.

Do larger loads offer better value?

Yes. A full 2.4 cubic metre load reduces delivery time and fuel costs, helping us keep the price lower per cubic metre. It is a popular choice for customers who want to stay stocked up for longer.

Why is the smallest load only available locally?

Our 0.6 cubic metre load, equal to one builders bag, is only available within the local 8-mile delivery area. It would not be competitive to deliver it further away.

Why do some addresses need a larger load?

For addresses between 20 and 30 miles away, the minimum order is 2.4 cubic metres, equal to four builders bags. Smaller loads would not be competitive to deliver over that distance.

How far do you deliver?

Free local delivery is within 8 miles. Delivery charges apply beyond that, up to 30 miles from ST10 4EL. For addresses between 20 and 30 miles, we would need a minimum order of 4 builders bags (2.4 cubic metres).

What if I do not have enough storage?

A smaller load may suit you better. Logs need a dry, ventilated space, so it is worth making sure you have room before ordering. You can always arrange a top-up later.

How are your logs dried?

Our logs are barn-dried under cover and seasoned naturally until they are below 20% moisture. Timber is cut, stacked in IBC cages and left under the barn where airflow helps it season without exposure to rain.

What is the best way to light a fire?

Start with dry kindling and a firelighter, stacked with plenty of airflow. A Jenga-style stack creates gaps for air to move through. Add small softwood pieces to build heat, then place hardwood on top once the fire is established.

How often should I have my chimney swept?

Most installers recommend at least once a year, or more often if you burn frequently. A clean flue improves airflow and reduces soot and tar build-up.

How should I store my logs?

Store logs somewhere dry and ventilated. Keep them raised from the ground and allow air to move through the stack.

Do you stack the logs?

No. All loads are tipped loose. This keeps delivery quick, efficient and affordable.

Why do you deliver loose rather than in bags?

Loose tipping is quicker, safer and more cost-effective. Bagging adds labour and material costs, and our vehicle has no lifting gear. Delivering loose keeps the service simple and affordable while giving you the full measured volume.

Why might delivery costs change?

Raw timber, fuel, vehicle maintenance and operating costs can change over time. We always keep prices fair and only adjust them when necessary.
